MEET OUR BOARD

Pat Serio, President

Ms. Paticia "Pat" Serio is a co-founder of WOMEN and the President of WOMEN's Board of Directors. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she studied accounting in college and eventually moved to California. Today, Ms. Serio is highly respected for her trailblazing efforts as one of the first women in Southern California to become an executive manager in the manufacturing sector. Prior to retiring, she served as an administrator and president of her own manufacturing company, Serco Mold, Inc., for more than 40 years. Serco Mold, Inc., located in LaVerne, CA, is an injection molding-plastics company that makes hand held cases. Ms. Serio has hands-on experience in various areas of manufacturing, including tooling, production, shipping, inventory, design, and quality control. Her extensive knowledge of all areas of operations in her company is one of the keys to the long-term success of Serco Mold.

Active in community affairs, Ms. Serio previously served for six years on the Board of Covenant House in Hollywood. She is currently on the Board of several local hospitals, including Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora, and Inter-Community Hospital in Covina. Ms. Serio is also involved in the Covina Rotary Club where she is a sponsor of Field of Valor, a campaign to raise funds to assist local Veterans and the families of deployed military. Ms. Serio is a founding member and the fourth club president of the Covina Rotary Club.

In 2010 Ms. Serio was the recipient of a YWCA Women of Achievement Award. She helped to establish WOMEN as an educational platform for professional women with first-hand knowledge of the manufacturing industry in order to mentor other women in business. Ms. Serio also sponsors a healthcare trust for employers in manufacturing, a service that is available to companies that join WOMEN. She is an duplicate bridge player and golfer.

Anita Ron, Member at Large

Anita Ron is an entrepreneur, business executive, and member at large of WOMEN's Board of Directors. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she is the president, CEO and owner of Brite Works, Inc. [http://www.briteworks.com], a full service janitorial company that utilizes state-of-the art technologies. Brite Works is a minority, woman owned corporation that Ms. Ron founded nearly 17 years ago with only $700 and three vacuum cleaners. Built on a commitment to customer service, Brite Works was established to "eliminate the janitorial headaches encountered in the business world...." Today, the company employs a staff of more than 70 full-time and part-time workers. Ms. Ron believes in treating her employees like an extended family so that they in turn take care of Brite Work's customers.

Ms. Ron earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of La Verne California, and holds certificates from California Unified Certification Program (CUCP), Los Angeles City-MBE/WBE/DBE, SBA 8A, Southern California Minority Business Development Council (SCMBC), and State of California Department of General Services (DGS). Ms. Ron is a graduate of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, a $500 million national program that provides entrepreneurs with a practical business education, access to capital, and business support services. She is a past President and current Vice President of the San Gabriel Valley YWCA, past member of the Board of the West Covina Chamber of Commerce, and past member of the Board of the Latin Business Association. She is currently a member of the West Covina Lions Club and the Latino Business Chamber of Greater Los Angeles.

In 2011, Ms. Ron was presented with the Businesswoman of the Year Award by Congresswoman Judy Chu at the Second Annual DiverCities event held at the Covina Women’s Club in Covina. As a socially conscious business owner, Ms. Ron's mission is to empower women, stop bullying and domestic violence, and end discrimination. She supports small business opportunities to help women enhance their self-esteem and develop their own leadership potential. Ms Ron joined WOMEN to truly make a difference by giving small businesswomen owners practical tools achieve their goals.

Suzette Catalon Peterson, Member at Large

Ms. Suzette Catalon Peterson is a Member at Large on WOMEN’s Board of Directors of WOMEN. She is known throughout the San Gabriel Valley and beyond for her versatile web design services and her generous volunteer work in the community. Born in the Philippines and raised in the Los Angeles area, she earned a B.A. in English and taught high school after graduating from college. An entrepreneur at heart, however, Ms. Peterson soon realized that her passion in life was to launch her own business and provide community service to people in need.

She has owned and operated her own web development company, AP Computer Learning Time, for the past 14 years. As a web developer with an international clientele, Ms. Peterson has created numerous websites for several companies in the manufacturing industry. She has received several awards for website development, and earned Merit Awards from Los Angeles County,

Ms. Peterson was a Soroptimist for many years until her batlle with lupus kept her from participating. Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization renowned for its programs that foster social and economic empowerment of women and girls worldwide. Ms. Peterson facilitated a lupus support group through Foothill Presbyterian Hospital for many years. She currently works closely with multiple organizations, including the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless. She has administered the websites of multiple nonprofit organizations such as YWCA, Loma Linda University Medical Auxiliary, Bergum Foundation, Healthy Azusa, and Make a Senior Smile. As a member of WOMEN's board, Ms. Peterson welcomes the opportunity to use her web development skills, to assist members of WOMEN in enhance their online presence. Her hobbies include traveling, playing competitive Scrabble, and camping. Ms. Peterson's favorite quote is a Chinese Proverb: "Happiness is someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for."
